I took advantage of a quiet weekend to go in and plant a couple of blueberry bushes I had ordered from Gurneys (Brigitta and Bluecrop varieties). Brigitta was the only one that I cold find that is listed as being more tolerant of partial shade.
I ordered the raised beds from Naturalyards (http://naturalyards.com/raisedbeds/) I got lazy and bought them instead of building them from scratch. Very sturdy and simple to put together.
I mixed my own soil up for the two raised beds too. 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 compost, 1/3 vermiculite plus I added in some pine needles and straw that I shredded with my weed whacker. I then mulched with some additional pine needs, shredded pine mulch, and pine nuggets (I read that as they decompose they add to the acidity of the soil which blueberries like. I also mixed in some alumnium sulfate to bring pH down.
